Redwood Writers members, co-editors Fran Claggett-Holland and Les Bernstein invite you to submit your poems to be considered for the
2022 Poetry Anthology

Inspiration

We are happy to announce Crossroads, the 2022 Redwood Writers Poetry Anthology. The cover image is a painting by Christine MacDonald (Artist website: ChristineMacDonald.com). Please write whatever inspires you. Most of all, enjoy the process.

Entries

Only Redwood Writers members in good standing may submit works to be considered for this anthology.

FIVE poems per entrant.
(Poems must be placed in one document)

POET NOTIFICATIONS:

RULES

Please observe the following contest rules; otherwise, your entry may be disqualified.

WHAT TO SUBMIT:

  • Poets must be members in good standing of Redwood Writers.
  • Each poet may submit up to 5 poems of any length on a single document.
  • BLIND SUBMISSIONS: Your name must NOT appear anywhere on the manuscript; only the title(s) of poem(s).
  • Only previously unpublished poems will be accepted. Poems that have appeared in print, including online magazines, are not eligible. However, they may have appeared in personal blogs or online newsletters.
  • Braided poems (two poets working on the same poem) will be accepted for submissions).
  • Every poem must have a TITLE.
  • All poems must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at 9 p.m., for consideration.
  • Poems must be original.

FORMAT REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1-inch margins
  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Poems should be single-spaced
  • Poems should be left-justified
  • One space after punctuation
  • Page number at bottom center
  • Spelling errors could cause a submission to be rejected prior to the editing process.

  • At the time of submission, include a 50-word professional, edited biography that begins with your name and is written in 3rd person, e.g., "John Doe lives in Sonoma and has been published in..."

  • Document format: Your piece(s) should be formatted as a Microsoft Word document (doc) or pdf, not a docx.
  • Multiple poems may be submitted in a single document.
  • ONLINE SUBMISSIONS ONLY: All entries must be submitted online using the submission form linked below.

WORKING WITH EDITORS:

For the benefit of our readers and for our growth as writers, we want to help each other hone these works to make them the best possible. As such, each member whose work is accepted will be expected to work with an editor in order to make recommended revisions.

Fran Claggett

Fran Claggett-Holland — After a career of high school and university teaching, Fran traveled widely as an educational consultant, writing books for teachers and students along the way. After moving to Sonoma County, she taught memoir and poetry for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Sonoma State University. She recently published her fourth book of poems. Fran currently hosts two poetry groups in her home and has edited or co-edited four poetry anthologies for Redwood Writers.

Les Bernstein has been published in journals, presses and anthologies in the U.S and internationally. Her chapbooks Borderland, Naked Little Creatures, and Amid the Din have been published by Finishing Line Press. She has won the 2014 Nazim Hikmet award and is a 2015 Pushcart Prize nominee. Her new book, Loose Magic, is available on Finishing Line Press. Les has served as editor for four prior Redwood Writers anthologies.
