Poetry Night

Q: Can I attend the poetry evening and not the all-day conference?
A: Yes. The poetry evening is a cost-effective $40 per CWC member or $45 non-member AND can be paid by check or money order and sent to Redwood Writers Poetry Night, c/o Elaine Webster, 977 Dorothea Ct, Windsor, CA 95492. Include your name and “Poetry Night” on the check.

Q: What is the dinner menu for the ‘evening of poetry’?
A: There are two choices, Napa Chicken and Sea Bass. When you register, please indicate your preference.

Q: Can I bring friends to the Poetry event?
A: Yes, certainly, we’d welcome it. It’s being held at the Flamingo Hotel for people who wish to attend both events. Please click here for more information.

Q: May I submit to both the poetry and the prose contests?
A: Yes, though you will have to complete separate forms. You may write a single check to cover both or pay online for one or both.

Q: I’m coming from out of town. Any suggestions on where to stay?
A: We have reserved a block of rooms for the conference at the Flamingo Hotel, 2777 Fourth St, Santa Rosa, CA 95404, 707-523-4745. Please email: [email protected] for a booking number to receive the special conference room rate. Then register by phone or on-line at http://www.flamingoresort.com. Discount rates available through March 27, 2012, or until all blocked rooms are filled. Also, you will find above other lodging and other points of interest.

Q: Is WiFi available at Poetry Night?
A: Yes, it is available at the Flamingo Hotel, though at a nominal charge.

Q: Can I pay for the Conference by check instead of credit card?
A: Of course, make the check or money order payable to ‘Redwood Writers.’ The online PayPal was provided as a convenience. About half of our attendees registered online with credit cards during the 2009 Conference

Q: When is the last day I can register for the Conference?
A: April 13th. The final head count is being submitted to SRJC.

Q: What if I register and then need to cancel?
A: Requests postmarked prior to April 13, 2012 at fee paid less $50. Requests postmarked after April 13, 2012 will not receive a refund. You may choose a substitute.

Q: I have to cancel owing to a last minute trip. Can I get a refund?
A: Requests postmarked prior to April 13, 2012 at fee paid less $50. Requests postmarked after April 13, 2012 will not receive a refund.

Q: What if I change my mind about the sessions I have signed up to attend, may I switch to another?
A: We don’t usually check people in at the door of each session. However, if a room is filled to capacity, we will redirect you to another session.

Q: Can I just pay for one or two sessions that are of interest to me?
A: Sorry, that option is not available.

Q: May I record a speaker or breakout session presenter?
A: If you have a hearing issue, please ask the presenter’s permission.

Q: May I bring my service dog to the conference?
A: If you are in training mode with the dog, no.  If your dog is actively in service to aid you, yes.

Q: Can I just attend the Conference for the keynote addresses?
A: Sorry. This is not an available option

Q: I can only go to the morning sessions of the conference. Is there any chance of a discounted admission price?
A: Sorry. This is not an available option

Q: Can I just pay for the one or two sessions of immediate interest to me?
A: Sorry. This is not an available option. We don’t have fees established for partial attendance/sessions or for single workshop sessions. These may be options we can consider for a future Conference, however, we cannot offer partial fees for this year’s event. An alternative is to keep an eye on our web site and join many of the individual workshops we conduct year round.

Q: I’d like to volunteer to work at the conference. Must I register?
A: Yes, you must be a registered attendee to volunteer. Indicate on the form that you’d like to volunteer. Your assingment will be made at a later date. Thank you for thinking of volunteering. For more information please email [email protected]

Q: How can I sign up for 1-on-1 editing session?
A: We will not be having special sessions with agents and editors this year.

Q: Will the presenter’s have their books for sale?
A: Yes, most of them will, though it’s voluntary. Be sure to look for Copperfield’s Book Sales and Redwood Writers merchandise tables, open during breaks and before and after the conference.

Q: If I want to purchase books written by speakers or other authors, how will I be able to pay?
A: We will accept cash or checks, and we also expect to be set up to accept MasterCard or Visa.

Q: If I have published a book but have not registered for the conference, may I still sell my books at the conference?
A: No, only authors who are Redwood Writers and are registered for the conference may sell their books. Being a member provides that benefit. (To join click Becoming a Member.)

Q: Does Santa Rosa Junior College have WiFi for the conference?
A: Yes and it’s free.

Q: Where do I park and what does parking cost?
A: Park in lot on north-side of Elliott St. across from the Bertolini Student Center or in the parking structure on Mendocino Ave. (map) Yes, $4.00. Bring crisp singles or coins for machine.

Q: How do I qualify for a free conference pass?
A: There are no free conference passes available.

Conference Food

 Q: It’s an all day conference, what food is included in the fee?
A: We will be offering coffee, tea and juice, plus pastries before the conference begins; a buffet lunch and break snacks; during the wrap-up networking session at the end, we’ll have non-alcoholic beverages and assorted cheeses and crackers and vegetables. Be sure to join us before your trip home!

Q: What is being served for lunch?
A: Italian meat lasagna or vegetarian lasagna plus salad, rolls, dessert, and beverages..

Q: I can’t eat meat or milk products. What can I do?
A: We will try to accommodate your dietary needs.

Q: Are there any snacks during the breaks provided?
A: Yes, mid-morning, coffee, tea and water service will be available. In the afternoon, soft drinks and cookies will be provided.

Q: Is there food at the post-Conference networking event?
A: Yes. Assorted cheese and crackers, vegetables and dip as well as a no-host bar is available.  Be sure to join us for some food, drink, and fun with fellow writers, agents, and editors.
