Write a story inspired by the Beatles song.

The Beatles song, "The Long and Winding Road," is the prompt for this contest. Whether it's "heavy" or "groovy," tell us your "Fab" story in 1,500 words or less, but remember to include the exact title in your fiction or memoir story.

Please observe the following contest rules; otherwise, your entry may be disqualified.

  • DO NOT place your name or contact information anywhere on your submission. This is a blind judging.
  • Submit as a pdf, doc, or docx.
  • Wordcount: No more than 1,500 words.
  • Work can be complete works, excerpts from larger works, or previously self-published works, but they must be previously unpublished by a traditional publisher.
  • Format: Manuscripts must be double-spaced and use 12-pointTimes New Roman font.
  • Number the pages, bottom right.
  • Only ONE submission per entrant.
  • Please use the online form to submit your entry and payment. Only submissions uploaded via the online form will be accepted for judging.
  • Immediate family members of judges and chairs of this contest are not eligible to submit.
  • Upon submission, if you choose to pay with a check, please make check out to "CWC Redwood," and write "Beatles Contest" on the memo line.

Barbara Cottrell

Barbara Cottrell is a former professor who gave up a career in academia to write full-time. She is currently working on The Shadows of Miskatonic, a series of supernatural thrillers. She is a member of the Horror Writer’s Association and presented her work at the 2016 Mystery Writers in the Mausoleum. She also served as a judge for the Redwood Writer’s Anthologies Redemption: Stories from the Edge, and Endeavor: Stories of Struggle and Perseverance.



Deborah Taylor-French writes mysteries about dogs, positive dog leadership, and animal rescue. The true story of Sydney’s adoption, “Punk Rocker With A Poodle Brain,” was published in Vintage Voices Four Part Harmony. Her fiction and memoir appear in over a dozen Redwood Writers Anthologies. Deborah is an Author Support Facilitator for Redwood Writers.

Deborah was awarded and served as a guest artist for California’s Artists in the Schools. An art educator, Deborah has led more than a hundred workshops.


Belinda Riehl

Belinda Riehl’s short stories and poems have been published in Medium.com, Sonoma Seniors Today, Redwood Writers’ anthologies, and internationally in Universal Oneness: An Anthology of Magnum Opus Poems from around the World. She has contributed to Redwood Writers as Vice President and Membership Chair, Associate Editor of Redwood Writers 2018 prose anthology Redemption, and numerous other volunteer positions since 2014.



Tina Deason

Tina Riddle Deason, writing as CM Riddle, is the author of One’s Own Sweet Way, A Novel About Anxiety Disorder, several Redwood Writer Anthologies, and she has published magazine articles. As an Ordained Priestess, she writes rituals and ceremonies. She leads Women’s Circles, is an author, homemaker and a mom. She resides with her husband in Rohnert Park, California, where she is writing her second novel. priestesstina.com
