Redwood Writers Contest
Convince your reader to travel to your favorite place to vacation: fiction or memoir, real destination or created.
Good luck and bon voyage!
Write about the perfect—or not so perfect—travel experience. Tell us about the accommodations, exotic food, the people? Did you pack enough, what about traditional attire, excursions, the weather? What about the romance, or dealing with family members? Was it difficult to get home? Did you have your passports or vaccinations? Did you miss the boat? Write about any or all these experiences in 2,000 words or less. Entice the judges to book a trip to—or avoid—your vacation destination.

• Non-member residents of Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt and Solano counties.

RULES
Please observe the following contest rules; otherwise, your entry may be disqualified.
- DO NOT place your name or contact information anywhere on your submission. This is a blind judging.
- Submit as a doc, or docx.
- Wordcount: No more than 2,000 words.
- Work can be complete works, excerpts from larger works, or previously self-published works, but they must be previously unpublished by a traditional publisher.
- Format: Manuscripts must be double-spaced and use 12-point, Times New Roman font.
- Number the pages, bottom right.
- Only ONE submission per entrant.
- Please use the online form to submit your entry and payment. Only submissions uploaded via the online form will be accepted for judging.
- Immediate family members of judges and chairs of this contest are not eligible to submit.
- Upon submission, if you choose to pay with a check, please make check out to "CWC Redwood," and write "Travel Contest" on the memo line.

Judges
LINDA C. McCABE
Linda C. McCabe is the author of Quest of the Warrior Maiden and Fate of the Saracen Knight, an epic historic fantasy series set in the time of Charlemagne. She received a master’s degree as an historian of science from Sonoma State University, and loves to travel. To aid in her research, she traveled twice to France. Her first novel was honored by the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association’s 2013 awards.
CAROLE BUMPUS
Carole Bumpus has been a state board member of the California Writers’ Club since 2012, on the local San Francisco Peninsula Branch board since 2010, and chair of the regional NorCal Group board since 2015. She is also a member of the Women’s National Book Association–San Francisco, a member of the Writers’ League of Texas, Austin branch and has been a contributing food/travel writer for numerous local and national newspapers.

TINA RIDDLE DEASON
Tina Riddle Deason is the author of One’s Own Sweet Way, a novel about Anxiety Disorder, (CM Riddle), several short stories including Redwood Writers and Chicken Soup for the Soul anthologies, Sage Woman, Witches & Pagans and Common Grounds magazines. She is currently working on two novels and an apprenticeship manual. She writes and performs rituals and ceremonies and leads women’s circles, and a yearlong Priestess Apprenticeship.
